Day 126

Hershey went well. Doc. decided that I do have a bacterial infection. I guess she wasn't sure because it was possible that the glands on my neck could swell just from the Ribavirin or even my blood counts going up and down so much.
But after checking my throat and finding it red, she thinks that it's an infection that maybe draining out through my neck causing the glands to swell. She gave me a script for 3 times a day of 500mg of Keflex to knock the infection out. Hopefully this kicks it.

Other than that I felt pretty good all day until the Nuepogen shot last night. Then it was time for bed.
This morning I'm slowly waking up. I took some Tylenol for the Nuepogen aches and that seems to be doing the trick. My coffee seems to be handling the rest of it!

This is my first day at part time and you would think that I would sleep in....but no not my body! It wakes up at 7am like it or not!

I seem to have found an old side effect that I had lost a couple of months into starting tx, I itch! My scalp itches, my neck and back itches! Drives me nuts!

I know that scratching my scalp isn't going to help my hair loss, but I just can't help it!

Isn't it amazing how itching travels? Something itches on my back, I scratch it and then it travels to my neck. It's like a little gremlin running around trying to make me dance! (little bastard)

All in all I'm waking up and the day will be nice. I'm trying to get the energy together to go grocery shopping. I'll try to time it so that Jimmy can carry the bags in for me.
This time I'll make sure the milk makes it to the fridge!!!!

One of Jimmy's stained glass pieces. Beautiful work!

Glad the trip to Hershey went well. Are they increasing your Peg up to full dose?
What a beautiful lamp!

WHat a trooper you have been with this treatment. You might want to take IFLORA so you don't get sores in your mouth from the antibiotics.

Oh no! Keflex on top of everything else. That crap really was nasty for me on tx. How does Jimmy find the time to make a lamp with everything else he has going on. The itchies are too much. Last night, they didn't come and I got a good night's sleep. take care trooper.

Wow you 2 have some real talent when it comes to artwork. The lamp is GREAT!
Laurie they gave me an anthistiamine for itching and it worked good. That and lots of lotion.
I sure hope your neck feels better soon. I did have to laugh though as you said they "THINK" it's an infection. I have been wondering what the hell they go to years of school for if they can only guess what is wrong. I think I choose the wrong profession LOL
Hope you part time is fun while it last

Magda's right - you need to take a pro-biotic while you're on antibiotics, so all of the good bacteria don't get wiped out. I took acidiphillus, you can get it at Rite Aid or CVS, GNC, etc.
I hope this wonder drug works wonders for you - soon!

Good Morning, the lamp is beautiful! I wish I lived closer I would love a lamp like that! Does Jimmy sell his work? I know what you mean about the itching I had it back in April and it was horrible, finally the doc gave me some Zyrtec and while I could only take half, it did help. Benedryl works too but Zyrtec doesn;t make me as sleepy. I scratched so much I had welts every where I hope you start to feel better real soon. I know the anti biotics aggravate the thrush, try to eat yogurt or take the Iflora that Maggie spoke of. I am just finishing a dose of Keflex and yes Tery Lee it makes things worse but what can you do?
Hope everyone has a nice day. My work is not being as understanding as they were, I don't know what to do. I am sick but they seem to think I am taking advantage of my sick leave. What else? Sorry, whining again, I smacked myself :)

Iris,
I'll know by Friday if they'll increase my dosages. They'll wait for my bloodwork to come back from Roche.
If I where to bet on it, I'd bet they'll increase.
Jimmy tried to talk the Doc. into letting my bloodlevels build up higher. Each time they've increased my dosages my levels had only gotten up to lowest "ok" point and the drugs caused me to crash again.
He was saying that maybe if we let my levels build up higher we'd have more room to work with rather than starting with the lowest possible levels and then knocking them down from there.
She got a little defensive and told him that she's following protocol and the protocol has been studied and worked out over a long period of time before my starting tx.
She's affraid of giving the virus a fighting chance to come back and she wants the dosages upped to prevent it. She thinks that maybe my levels won't fall as hard now that the trial drug is gone and I'm still on the Nuepogen and the Procrit.
I guess we'll see.
I agree with both of them.

Thank you! His work is beautiful isn't it? :)

Hope your vacation is going nice!

Hey M!

Congratulations on your new job!!! It sounds soooo exciting!

I have a couple of friends who are surgical nurses and they love it. E.R. work sounds even more challenging.

IFLORA, I'll have to ask Doc about it. I wonder if that would help the sores that I already have in my mouth.

Thanks Magda!

Good luck with the job. :)

So far the Keflex is behaving itself. My fingers are crossed that I can still say that in a few days.

The itching is crazy! I've actually scratched so much that my skin is sore in some places. Problem is that it still itches where my skin is sore!

They say don't scratch. Yeah right! I say they can kiss my ass! I'd rather have sore skin then to spend my time trying to ignore something that's impossible to ignore.

Thank god you got relief for the night! Hopefully it will go away for good now.

Take care my friend!

Rosie,

Thank you. He does awesome work doesn't he! :)

I'm using a lot of lotion. I hate the idea of taking more drugs, so I'm trying to hold off on the anthistiamine until I have no choice. It seems to me that the less drugs I take the less sides I end up with. Anthistiamines tend to make me sleepy and that on top of fatigue kicks me in the butt.

Last time that I went through this I rode it out and it only lasted a couple of weeks. Hopefully it goes away soon.

Thats what Doctors do....they guess. Since the Ribavirin and my up and down WBC could have caused the glands to swell, they had to see if they could find anything that would show them the chance that there's an infection. I guess my throat finally did that.

I wish it where like on Star Trek when they take that little thingy and wave it over someone and it magically tells them whats wrong.

Still I hate the guessing game too.

Hope your feeling well.

Dorene,
Jimmy does sell his work. I wish you where closer too.
Since your work knows about your tx, maybe you could try handing them the paperwork that we get with the Pegasys and the Ribavirin. It showws all the side effects and the percentage of people who get them. The paperwork itself is some pretty scary stuff!

Maybe even try underlining the symptoms that you have. Show them how nasty this is.

If nothing else, if they where to fire you over this, giving them a copy of those papers and having them informed of your difficulties would help you in the future.

Really, if I where to be fired for being sick with Hep C and going through tx....the first thing I'd do after being fired is call the Board of Labor and sue their asses for disability discrimination. Hep C is a disability.

But like I said, I would hand them those papers just to make sure they are fully informed.

My fingers are crossed that it doesn't come to any of that for you...but just in case you need to protect yourself.

Take care my friend!

Hi Laurie,
Here I am trying again to get on this thing. I keep trying. I so want to talk to you to give my support.
Keep up the good work. You are so strong.
I love that floor lamp. Jimmy always did beautiful work. Remember the unicorn you gave to Kristen so many years ago? It is still beautiful!

Hi Laurie, thank you for the advice, the Keflex worked for me it just didn't help the thrush so I ate yogurt like a fiend. I know what you mean about not wanting to take another drug, a friend found this Eucerin Calm and every time I itched I put some on, it did seem to help and also Benedryl makes a gel for itching so you don't have to take a pill. Isn't it odd how the itching comes and goes? I don't have it now but it seems I trade one side effect for another, I know what you mean about not wanting to go back up in doses, I am at .75 due to low numbers and I am feeling better, I just know when they increase it I am going to have another adjustment to make. I would like to just feel like this for a bit. I think Jimmy has a good idea my family said the same thing, can't they keep you at.75, I know that is not the best thing to keep the viral load down but it would be nice to have a break long enough to actually go out to dinner or something fun with my husband. I really admire you for going out and doing things when you feel so bad I thought I could make myself do it but I couldn't
Hope you are having a good day
